Students' Comments

We believe that success in Philosophy comes about through a true partnership between students and teachers, built on hard work, mutual respect and dialogue. We are always keen to listen to what our students have to say and below is a small number of comments made by past students.

" I originally chose Philosophy as a fourth option at AS as I was interested to see what it was about, and had always been interested in the philosophical side of RS. However, I was so fascinated by the subject, and greatly enjoyed the mental challenge it presented, that I have now taken it on as one of my A-levels and am hoping to study it at university next year.

I have realised that not only do I greatly enjoy the subject but also that it has given me very valuable practical skills that will be massively useful in later life.

It has helped me to analyse various sources, find strengths and weaknesses in arguments and become a good essay writer. I have found that Philosophy has also helped with my other subjects, as the skills that I have learned have helped my essay writing skills in History and English as well as being useful in solving problems in other aspects of life.

I have especially enjoyed the topics of Epistemology and the Philosophy of Mind, because if certainty was ever found for the questions raised in these topics then it could change the whole of our belief system and they are therefore massively relevant to our society. The challenge of finding certainty and arguing against the sceptic has gripped me and I hope that I can continue my study of Philosophy at a higher level."
